Greetings:
I am very impressed with the web page on Westport radio. It brings back some fond memories of the several years I worked as an announcer and news reporter at WMMM/WDJF in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
One of the things that sticks out in my mind the most about those years were the Christmastime trips with John LaBarca (who was dressed as Santa Claus) and virtually the entire staff to the Southbury Training School. We traveled on a school bus loaded with Christmas presents, which were handed out to the mentally retarded in the state-run institution. Unfortunately some of the patients at the now-closed facility were sleeping on mattresses placed directly on the floor.
Other memories include the uncertainty about station ownership, the true community service the stations provided to the area with news and information, and the excitement of trying to gain an audience for the type of radio (on WDJF) that Rod Ross and several others melded with music that spoke to a generation. It may have been automated, but it was good stuff.

Long live the memory of the late oldies radio station from Westport, Connecticut. Some of my best years were spent high atop Oscar's Deli in beautiful downtown Westport. Small in size. Giant in personality. Thanks to Walt and Red for giving me the opportunity to create commericials and special interest programs. Being behind the scene with Mark, Beth, Tony and Jose Feleciano was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Best wishes to all...... Lou Emery
